Good to know

Questions before we meet?

If your situation is unusual or time-sensitive, send the details with your appointment request.

Can you tell me which form or notarial act I need?

No. A non-attorney notary cannot select documents, choose a notarial act, draft language, or provide legal advice. The document preparer, receiving agency, or an attorney can tell you what is required.

Can you notarize a document that is already signed?

It depends on the notarial certificate and circumstances. Do not add another signature or alter the document before the appointment unless instructed by the document’s receiving party.

What identification should I bring?

Missouri’s Secretary of State recommends government-issued identification containing the signer’s photo and signature, such as a driver’s license or passport. The notary must be satisfied with the evidence of identity.

Can you come to a hospital or care facility?

Yes, subject to facility access. The signer must be alert, willing, and able to communicate. Staff cannot direct a notarization for someone who cannot personally demonstrate awareness and willingness.

Is my appointment confirmed when I submit the form?

No. The form prepares an email request or submits it through the connected delivery service. Your visit is confirmed only after Brown Notary replies with availability, any travel fee, and a confirmation.
